With this painting, inspired by a photograph of the Rapid City South Dakota brontosaurus from National Geographic, I was exploring myths of the American West. For both the brontosaurus and the cowboy, there is a wide gap between their literal existence and our understanding of them from their portrayal in popular culture and movies.
