Brancusi’s Muse, 2003
acrylic on canvas 40 x 30 inches
Our painting class assignment was to paint a picture of a sculpture, and I chose Constantin Brancusi’s A Muse from 1918 on display at the Portland Art Museum. I made many drawings at the museum of the sculpture to show the lights and shadows, as well as drawings of the gallery to mark the location of lights and other artworks that reflect in the polished surface. Then I used the drawings to paint the painting in the studio.
