Train No. 1, 1991, third grade

painted wood and aluminum can 4.25 x 13 x 3.5 inches

In the summer of 1991 my parents took me on a road trip to Mount Rushmore and I spent the whole time trying to figure out how to build a model railroad. I kept a notebook in the back seat of the car which I filled with drawings of trains. My ambition for my railroad hopelessly exceeded my skill level as a third grader, but after giving up on steam power, and even track, I came up with a satisfyingly simple design by fall which I used as the basis for five trains between November of ‘91 and June of ’92. Notice that the cab window is a write protect sticker for a 5 1/4 floppy disk.
